Registration of the death of an Indian national
If an Indian national dies in Rwanda, the next of kin, or a relative or acquaintance authorised by the next of kin (the informant), can apply to the High Commission to register the death and cancel the Indian passport. The High Commission also issues the documents needed to transport the mortal remains, or ashes, to India.
How to apply
- Report and register the death with the authorities of the Government of Rwanda, as required by local law. The High Commission needs the documents issued by them, such as the death registration certificate, the medical report on the cause of death, the police report and the embalming certificate.
- Fill in the application for registration of death online on the Indian Consular Services portal. Upload the documents listed in its “Required Documents” section.
- Bring the application and the original supporting documents to the High Commission. The High Commission then issues the death certificate and the other documents needed to transport the mortal remains or ashes.
Forms
- Form to be submitted by the informant with the application PDF
- Format of the authorisation letter by the next of kin, for submitting the application and documents and collecting the documents issued by the High Commission PDF
