Oscar Kerketta was born in Ranchi, India in 1963.
He read English Literature at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi University and Sociology at the Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University. He has studied Chinese at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1987 and has worked in various capacities in Missions at Hong Kong (1989-91), Beijing (1991-93), Warsaw (1997-2000), Berlin (2000- 03), Lusaka (2006-09), Stockholm (2009-12) and Consul General at Edinburgh (2012- 16). In Headquarters, he has been among other responsibilities, in the SAARC Division in 2003-06 and Additional Secretary (FSI) from April – August 2018. He has been High Commissioner in Kigali since August, 2018.
He is married and has one son and one daughter.
